During the first Wonder Woman film, I travelled to China to scout locations for VFX plates. What followed was quite an intense but rewarding scout — I crossed the entire breadth of the country, from Chengdu in the west to Shanghai in the east, passing through what felt like every province in between.
One unforgettable stop was Mount Huashan — a sacred mountain known for its staggering cliffs, ancient Taoist temples, and infamous plank walks bolted to sheer rock faces. It’s dramatic, cinematic, and utterly terrifying in places.

To get the angle I needed, of course I had to scale down a rope onto a small ledge hanging off the mountainside. It was the only way to frame the shot just right. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
Just don’t tell my wife.
